Description

Basque Trade and Investment (BasqueTrade) is the internationalisation agency of the Basque Government that offers a customised service to boost Basque company’s exports and internationalisation, foster positioning activities in strategic markets, facilitate technical support in commercial and production plants, as well as providing support in projects funded by multi-lateral organisations.

Role Description: 

  • Lead the Representative office in Germany

  • Establish high level relations with companies, associations, organisations, government, and institutional bodies 

  • Manage high level bilateral relations with priority regions in Germany for the Basque Country

  • Create and maintain mechanisms to access commercial and market data, identification and analysis of opportunities, and monitor local companies and value chains in the priority markets and sectors

  • Participate in forums related to the interests of Basque companies in the defined priority areas

  • Coordinate and manage business projects aimed at the German market, maintaining the standards of quality and service of BasqueTrade and handling relations with client companies during the development of business projects

  • Identify promoters and mentors to drive the activities of the office and collaborate with Basque companies in Germany

  • Issue reports related to the German economy and general market situation, including specific sectors defined as priority for Basque companies

  • Monitor the Basque business map in the region 

  • Maintain direct contact with companies, visiting their headquarters whenever possible in order to see first-hand the company’s situation in order to evaluate its capacities to strengthen the business project in the country

  • Prepare and facilitate the Basque Government’s internationalisation technicians in the Basque Autonomous Community with detailed information on the country situation, markets, companies, opportunities, etc. for Basque companies

  • Establish collaboration mechanisms to provide information, knowledge, and vision to the Basque Government’s internationalisation competitive intelligence unit

  • Coordinate the provision of the Basque Government’s entire portfolio of internationalisation services

  • Organise, coordinate, and accompany businesses and institutional missions that are proposed from different areas

  • Participate in commercial activities in the Basque Autonomous Community in order to respond to queries made by Basque companies interested in the German market  

  • Planning and coordination in the organisation of specific sector and country seminars with representatives of different industrial sectors

  • Identify key sectoral opportunities for Basque companies  

  • Prepare detailed information about the German office, regularly updating information related to:

    • Budget and its execution

    • Activity: objectives defined and their completion

    • Legal structure of the office

    • Structure (physical space) of the office: surface area, location, layouts

    • Subcontracting activities related to these offices: legal advice, account auditing, maintenance, insurance, and others

    • Organisation and participation in dissemination conferences in the Basque Country: External Network services, Internationalisation support programmes, etc

    • Organise conferences to raise awareness of the activities of Basque companies abroad, image of the Basque Country and promotion of the Basque Country Brand

    • Availability to permanently reside in Munich in the long term and traveling around Germany regularly

 

Requirements: 

  • Graduate in any field

  • Master’s Degree will be desirable

 

Experience

  • 5 years minimum professional experience, preferably in international activities

  • Leadership in international projects: the candidate must have proven international project management experience and/or ability to carry out commercial or production exploration and/or implementation of projects abroad 

  • Fluency in spoken and written German and English

 

Preferred Qualifications 

  • Experience in people management, team leadership and project management

  • Networking experience with diverse institutions in Germany will be highly valued, including Industrial Associations, Consulates, Industrial Parks, Clusters, Local Authorities, etc.

  • Knowledge of German and Basque industrial and institutional sectors

  • Professional experience abroad 

  • Previous professional experience in the destination country with an established network of contacts 

  • Knowledge of Basque and Spanish
